PHOTOS: Former VP Atiku Declares For 2023 Presidency, Making It His 6th Time

The Former Vice-President of Nigeria Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has declared his intention to run for president in 2023 on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which is the main opposition party in the country.

Atiku said his decision is historic and expressed hopes that Nigerians will play a crucial role in making his ambition a reality.

The former VP said:

“Under my presidency, I want to focus on five key areas: Unity of Nigeria, Security, Economy, Education and devolving more resources and powers to the federating units.

“I have never been this optimistic, and with your support and God’s grace, we will get to the promised land.

“This time around is different; our journey will not end at the poll; we will get to work and rescue Nigeria. I invite every Nigerian to join me in this mission to save our dear country.”

The race will be the sixth time Atiku will seek to be Nigeria’s president.

He was a major party flagbearer in two of the previous five attempts, including in 2019 when he mounted an ardent challenge to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

He started running in 1992 under the Social Democratic Party and has sought office in every presidential election since 2007.
