Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has credited the good works of the military, he commended its officials for their accomplishments in terms of putting up a passionate fight against insurgency in the country.

He said this on Monday during a visit by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, at Government House, Port Harcourt.

Wike gave him reasons why he does not need to go live on Television, making Nigerians believe they are safe when the insurgents are actually winning.

According to Wike, Nigerians will get to know the situation of things from the environment, not even when the army might not need to blow unnecessary trumpet.

He made it known that greater success can be achieved in the war against Boko Haram and bandits, with the deployment of military strategies and not media noise.

“When you are winning a war, the people will feel it. When people are secured, you don’t need to go to television to tell them that they are secured.

“They will know from the environment that there are a lot of changes going on and that is the way Nigerians believe that, yes, we are winning the war against insurgency,” he said.

Wike said the peaceful situation in Rivers was a resultant effect of the cordial relationship between the heads of security groups and the government.

Rivers people according to him are safe, comfortable in their different communities between itself and the state. This started from the era of Dr. Peter Odili.

He also assured the Nigerian Air Force of continuing the existing cordial relationship between it and the state government that started from the administration of Dr. Peter Odili.

Wike also called on members of the military task force deployed to arrest illegal oil bunkers to find a better and environmentally friendly way to destroy bunkering sites in the State.

He said it is time the Nigerian State considers the damage caused by the activities of crude oil thieves to the economic mainstream of the country and treat them as treasonable offenders.

Wike noted that it is not only the wastage of the economy that is witnessed but the degradation that the environment also suffers as a result of that which impacts negatively on rural communities in Rivers State in particular.
