Reference Daily News reports that the former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Ibi, cautioned the federal government to halt the plan to declare a State of Emergency in his Anambra State.
Obi in his speech believes Nigeria needs such more than Anambra, as it is going through a lot of security issues.
You will recall that Abubakar Malami SAN, the AGF threatened that the Federal government will introduce a State of Emergency. This is in order to beef up security ahead of the November 6th Gubernatorial election in the state.
However, Malami added that the Federal government will try its best possible to protect lives and properties. He said whenever there is an indication that the state government has not been performing up to expectation in respect to protecting lives and maintaining Democratic order, the federal government shall wade in through a State of Emergency.
However, Obi, while reacting to the AGF’s statement in an interview on Arise Television, ‘The Morning Show’, on Monday, said the Federal Government should resolve the problems of insecurity bewildering Nigeria in general and not a part of the country.
He said, “Even in government when they make statement, they should always evaluate their statement and the implication, and the overall wellbeing of their statement.
“People don’t know that the greatest contributor to GDP (Gross Domestic Profit), growth is intangible asset, which is security, law and order and even behaviour and the statements of the leaders.
“Their statement can actually hurt the economy and hurt the place. So, they should ensure that their words and their statement are something that have gone through scrutiny.
“Saying that they have to declare state of emergency in Anambra State because of insecurity should actually mean, that you need to declare state of emergency in Nigeria because of insecurity.
“So that statement from the Attorney General shouldn’t be.
“Also, he is the Attorney Generation of Federation, not the Attorney Generation of PDP or APC, but of the federation. There is a position you are, you are now working as government,” the former governor stated.
