A sergeant affiliated and identified with the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department has reportedly shot dead one Monsura Ojuade, an 18 year-old admission seeker in Lagos.

The incident which happened around 11:30pm in the Surulere Area of Lagos State, got everyone thinking.

The victim in front of the parents’ house on Mogaji Street, Ijesha, Surulere street. It happened just when some Anti-robbery officers from the SCIID stormed the community.

Onikeku Adedayo revealed how one of the cops approached and requested what he was doing outside at that time of the day.

“I told him that I was in front of my house and I am a community leader. He said it was too late and I should go inside. I and a few others around me left. Not less than three minutes later, I heard a gunshot. I heard her sister scream that she had been shot. The policemen fled the scene immediately,” he added.

Adedayo stated that the victim was caught by gunshot which penetrated her two thighs. She was immediately drenched in blood.

The drenched lady was eventually rushed to a private hospital, where she was rejected.

She was thereafter taken to Randle General Hospital, where she was firstly aided.

“By that time, she had collapsed and could not talk. The hospital placed her on oxygen and tried to stop the bleeding.

The doctor confirmed his inability to continue with treatments, as the bones were already shattered by the bullet. She was in dire need of orthopaedic action.

“We were referred to either Igbobi Orthopaedic Hospital or Gbagada General Hospital. When we got to Igbobi, she was almost gone and we decided to take her to a private hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

Monsura was confirmed dead around 1:30am on that bloody Saturday. “believe that she died within 30 minutes of the shooting,” Adedayo added.

A resident, Ismail Oguntoyinbo disclosed the policemen to be from SCIID, he revealed their entry point to be the community at Ijesha Police station.

He said they desisted from leaving the area after subjecting the people to tears.

“The Ijesha DPO said the policemen came to his station to report that they wanted to investigate some people they arrested and he gave them the go-ahead, but he never knew they came to raid. The DPO refused to disclose their identities,” he added.

The deceased who was the third of three female children, was said to have filled Mass Communication and Accounting as her First and Second Choices respectively in her UME form.

She According to reports came out of the examination with 236, which placed her on a high hope of securing admission.

The remains had been deposited at the Military Hospital Morgue, Yaba.

“She ran inside the house when there was commotion outside, but one of the policemen shot her.

“Her mother fainted more than five times on Saturday after getting the news that she was dead. We were processing her admission when she was killed,” Oguntoyinbo said.

The parents appeared not to be interested to speak with journalists but the sister, Tosin threatened that the family will institute a legal action against the police.

While seeking Justice for her, she described her sister as honest, respectful loyal and industrious.

Another source that spoke with journalists revealed that three cops were at the scene for the operation and that they have all been rounded up and detained at the SCIID.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, in a statement, explained that the cops were in the community to arrest a robbery suspect.

He noted that the policeman who pulled the trigger had been detained.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed that the said police officer should be tried and charged to court immediately after being dismissed from the Force. This, it is believed, will serve as a deterrent to others who do not act professionally in the course of their duties,” he added.
