The Yoruba Nation activist and fighter, Sunday Adeyemo Igboho has been reportedly tracked, arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic. This was at the break of the news of his possible escape from Nigeria.
Igboho was according to Sahara Reporters arrested on Monday night by a delegation of security forces, while trying to secretly steal away from Nigeria via Cotonou to Germany.
The activist who was reportedly nabbed in the neighbouring African country will be repatriated to Nigeria soon.
Speaking with SaharaReporters, a source privy to the incident, said, “Sunday Igboho has been arrested in Cotonou. He was arrested about an hour ago.
“He was supposed to travel to Germany through Cotonou this night. He wanted to leave Africa through Cotonou. He was arrested by security operatives in Cotonou.
DSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunnaya, had advised Igboho to turn himself in to the nearest security.
“Those cheering and eulogizing him may appeal to or advice him to do the needful,” Afunnaya said. “He should surrender himself to the appropriate authorities. He or anyone can never be above the law.”
“They are planning to bring him back to Nigeria.”
You will recall that the Yoruba Nation activist has been earlier declared wanted, after a night raid was carried out on his house. The unanticipated raid left two dead and 13 others arrested.
Meanwhile, Pelumi Olajemgbesi, one of the counsels to the activist has denied knowing anything about the arres. He promised to confirm his superior.
“I will contact Yomi Aliu (SAN) to verify the news,” he said.
