A suspected lunatic was said to have stabbed a branch pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Imo.

Pastor Thomas Ugochukwu who was stabbed in Umuokoto, Umudibia Autonomous Community, in the Owerri West Area of the state, was said to have been the pastor of the church before his demise.

According to Daily Trust, the pastor died on trying to rescue a mother and the child who were locked up by the husband, for intentionally bringing hardship to the family.

The duo of the wife and child were said to have been locked, severely beaten by their bread winner, known as Obum. He alleged the wife of attempting to snuff life out of their only surviving child, not even when they lost two to death since 2016.

The whole thing started around 4:00pm when the Redeem Pastor attempted in conjunction with other neighbours, to rescue the screaming mother, Ogechi and her child.

Obum of Obowo was infuriated by this action, he reacted by pouncing on and killing the pastor.

According to an eyewitness, “As the crowd intensified effort to rescue the woman, Obum with a knife, threatened to kill anyone who tried to stop his action,” one of the eyewitnesses told the newspaper.

After successfully rescuing the woman from her husband’s grip, Obum became enraged and started chasing everybody with the blood-stained knife. As Onyekuru made to go, Obum stabbed him at the back.

At the successful rescue of the duo from from the enraged husband, he swung into action and was chasing everybody. He eventually caught up with the pastor and stabbed him heavily.

He also attacked the operatives of the Nigerian Police while trying to resist arrest.

Unconfirmed report said Obum’s wife also later died.

The President-General of Umuokoto Community Council (UCC), Hon. Charles Anozie, who confirmed the incident, said Obum and the pastor were taken to the hospital where they later died.
