A leader of the youths in one of the villages in Ibadan, Oyo State has been reportedly murdered by suspected herdsmen, notorious for being bloodthirsty.
The youth was otherwise known as “Olori Odo” was allegedly gunned down by the invading herders, who unexpectedly visited Akinkunmi village, Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.
Akinkunmi village, a stone’s throw to Kara market of cattle, rams, including other livestock.
Razak Ishola who spoke with newsmen also attested to how the suspected herders tried to kidnap two people at the village on Saturday.
A waylaid victim who reportedly escaped and ran into Akinkunmi village for help was said to have necessitated the need for Olori Odo’s action, in collaboration with his youths. They bombarded the village in search of the bloodthirsty herders, though were eventually overpowered and shot. The three youths shot included “Olori Odo”.
It is gathered that the youth leader has died of the gun wounds secured, while other youths are still recuperating in the health facility they were rushed to in the local government.
Ishola, an eyewitness confirmed how some villagers were suddenly attacked while going to another village. His uncle was allegedly taken into the bush while he escaped to another to break the terrible news.
The villagers were a bit shocked that such abomination had crept into their land. They reacted via their youth leader who combed the bushes, alongside the youths.
A suspected herdsmen was reported to have been arrested as at the time of filing this report. He is at Moniya Police Station owing to his complicity in the occurrence.
When contacted, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident.
He was however not reacting to the number of casualties. According to him, it was a foiled kidnap attempt, adding that investigation would continue on the dastardly act.
