Members of Kwara State House of Assembly have blasted the Minister of Information, Mr Lai Mohammed after he publicly boasted of sponsoring their campaign.
The Minister, who was described as an unrepentant liar in a statement jointly signed by 24 members of the house on Sunday, was greeted with reactions from different forms.
Lai Mohammed, while inaugurating the factional secretariat of the APC party on Saturday, bluntly accused the state’s governor, Abdurahman Abdurazaq of having bitten the finger that fed him. He seized the medium to confess his singlehandedly sponsoring the governor’s campaign in 2019.
“By the grace of God, I single-handedly, with the support of friends, politicians and families, raised all the money for all the elections we had in Kwara during that period, starting from the by-election that brought in honourable Raheem Olawuyi (Ajuloopin) as Rep member.
“I challenge anybody here to say who gave the party one penny apart from what I gave them. The money paid to party agents and leaders to mobilise voters was raised by me. I challenge anybody here to say that he gave logistic support to the party, I did it by the grace of God. I distributed 500 motorcycles, 20 vehicles and many of the beneficiaries are here,’’ Mohammed had said.
The lawmakers, while reacting to this denied his ever sponsoring anyone of them. He is according to them a serial liar, who knows his Art
The statement read in part, “For God knows reason, Lai Mohammed did not participate in any of our campaigns and did not also contribute financially to it. It was the then governorship candidate of our party, the APC, who supported our campaigns all through.
“For the records, all the 24 members of the House of Assembly received financial support from Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for the purpose of prosecuting the House of Assembly election; so, Lai Mohammed should please stop telling lies to the people.
“Apart from the governorship candidate (Abdulrazaq), the other support was the sum of N500,000 each that we received from the national headquarters of our party, APC. Other than that, it was the governor who funded our expenses, including logistics, souvenirs, posters and other campaign materials. Even so, at no time did the governor go about telling anyone that he funded our campaign.”
The lawmakers further disabused the minds of the Kwara people, not even when Lai Mohammed does not have what it takes to sponsor their campaigns.
