The security situation in Nigeria appears not to be improving at all, not even when some unidentified gunmen wrecked another unanticipated havoc on the Oba Ile Area of the Akure North Local Government of Ondo State.
The gunmen who struck in the early hours of today, 3rd June, 2020, hijacked a bus belonging to a school (Chimola School), and another official of the said school who was on duty.
The incident, which occurred around 6:45am while the driver and the attendant were going to pick the pupils of Chimola School from their homes within the Oba-Ile area, surprised the inhabitants. It happened when the officials of the school ran into gunmennumbering eight.
According to an eyewitness, these frightening faces were said to have surrounded the bus, threatened the driver to stop. In his words “the eight men who were armed with guns, cutlass and some other weapons, dragged the drivers down from the vehicle and threatened to kill him.”
He said the bus bearing the registration number, Lagos LSD 853 FJ with Chimola Schools inscribed on it was hijacked by one of them, who escaped with it. Others were said to have also vacated the scene on motorcycles.
The said witness went further by saying “the driver and the attendant were about to pick the first student when the incident happened. The gunmen rounded up the vehicle and came down with dangerous weapons.
“The driver was dragged down from the bus while one of them took the driver’s seat and drove off with the attendant in the bus.
“The whereabouts of the attendant is still unknown but we have reported the incident at the Oba ile Police station. This is the first time we are experiencing this kind of situation here. It is quite unfortunate.”
The Police while reacting to this development through its Police Public Relations Officer, said it is yet to confirm the incident. It promised to consult the Divisional Police Officer in the area
